Architect Ernest Blerot, very present in this district, not far from the Ixelles ponds, designed these three houses in 1887 and 1899, the houses on no. 42 and 44 were built for the same client.

The one on no. 46 was built for his personal use, and is more elaborated than the two neighboring houses.

Blerot was very active throughout the Art- Nouveau period, designing row houses, simple but well designed. It respected the traditional “Brussels layout”, with a basement kitchen topped with a “bel étage” floor made of three adjoining rooms.

He built nearly 50 houses in Brussels during this period. The two houses on no. 42 and 44 are very similar, with these very particular window frames on the upper floors, and the pointed oriel. The windows and front door of Nr 42 have been replaced, while those of no. 46, quite elegant, are original.

Have a look, further down the street, on no. 30 & 32, two other houses by the same architect.
